About

First Presbyterian Church, founded in 1896, is a part of the Presbyterian Church (USA). We embrace our past and look to the future with strong roots in our local church. Join us in worship, fellowship, and service.

Our Story

We stand for Lives Changed By Christ

Our congregation was founded in Bemidji in 1896 as the first church of the fledgling community.

We celebrate our past as we embrace our present and future ministries. We are a group of people with strong roots in our local church who worship, fellowship, and minister together.

We are called to lead lives of discipleship and service, and so we share our time and talents in a variety of ways.

We welcome you to join us on our faith journey.

What We Believe

God comes to us in free and undeserved favor in the person of Jesus Christ who lived, died, and rose for us so that we might belong to God and serve Christ in the world.  Following Jesus, Presbyterians are engaged in the world and in seeking thoughtful solutions to the challenges of our time.

  • About the Holy Spirit & faith

“In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth praying, ‘Come, Lord Jesus.’” —From “A Brief Statement of Faith”

  • About the Bible

Ultimately, the best biblical student is the one who not only seeks to understand but also is committed to applying the message of Scripture. “Be doers of the Word, and not merely hearers,” says the writer James (1:22). May it be so for all of us! And may it be that by doing the Word, we will fight a little less and love a little more.

our core values

faith. community.

At the core of Presbyterian identity is a secure hope in the grace of God in Jesus Christ, a hope that, by the power of the Holy Spirit, empowers us to live lives of gratitude: “In affirming with the earliest Christians that Jesus is Lord, the Church confesses that he is its hope and that the Church, as Christ’s body, is bound to his authority and thus free to live in the lively, joyous reality of the grace of God.” (Book of Order F-(218) 444-5016

This strong emphasis on the grace of God in Jesus Christ is our heritage from the founder of the Reformed tradition, John Calvin.

LIVING LIFE INDIVIDUALLY,

TOGETHER

Men and women everywhere are born to live together, not alone.  As a closed-knit church, we believe we can all walk along our individual paths, together. With a strong shared sense of His love, each member of the Path community can find a way to live a wholesome life of faith while sharing the struggles, happy moments and wishes with other members of the church.
